1. Good news: If you’re using ChatGPT, you’re ahead of the curve

According to a new Pew Research study, about 58% of American adults are familiar with ChatGPT, but only 14% have actually used it for entertainment, learning, or work.

The demographics of those using it skew towards younger men.

So here’s the thing, guys: only 14% of Americans have even TRIED ChatGPT.

And of those who have tried it, more than half said that they found it to be “meh” - only somewhat useful or not useful.

That means if you’re using it already in your business, you’re a step ahead.

💡 Lesson of the Day:

Never stop testing those email campaigns... and use AI to make it easier!

BarkBox, the doggy treat and toy subscription retailer, wanted to find new ways to make their customers stay for the long haul and increase their average order value.

In January 2023, BarkBox conducted some email experiments. They launched two different A/B split-tested campaigns to promote their new Durable Dental Chew products. The first was to their regular subscribers, while the second was for Super Chewers (those with dogs who are hardcore chewers and receive more durable toys.)

The results? Their conversion rates shot up by a whopping 16% and 30%, respectively. 👀

BarkBox discovered that their regular subscribers responded better to a simple and straightforward email, while the Super Chewers subscribers preferred emails that showcased the product collection.

In addition, their average order value went up by $2 during the last quarter of 2022 thanks to cross-selling and upselling.

🤔 Meg’s Take:

This is a great reminder of the value of testing. Luckily, personalizing content and testing variations is becoming easier than ever to implement with advancements in AI.

For example, in my party supply E-Com business, we are currently working on creating email automations that are triggered when a user interacts with certain content on our website to ensure that they’re receiving info and product recommendations that are actually relevant to what they’re looking for (because for our customers, showing them baby shower products when they’re actually planning a bachelorette party doesn’t result in a whole lot of sales 😝)
