Major Google Ads Updates Coming for Ecommerce Sellers

Plus: Consumer views on AI marketing, super cool video editing tool

Happy Monday friends, today we’ve got some important updates on the future of Google Ads, a hot tip on posting AI content on your site, my all time new FAV video editing tool.

Let’s jump in:

📰 Stay in the Loop: AI E-Com News

1. Survey Says…Use AI generated content, but be cool about it

Results of a StoryStream survey of 600 consumers on generative AI in marketing (for example, using ChatGPT to write blog posts) show mixed but fairly positive views.

  • 77% think generative AI can lead to personalized and relevant marketing, but only 51% are currently comfortable with the idea.

  • 58% of respondents expressed that they would have greater trust in a brand if it openly disclosed its use of generative AI in marketing.

  • 59% of respondents have a generally positive impression of generative AI, with Gen Z most positive (74%).

  • User-generated content is the most trusted format (45%), followed by brand-created content (22%), and AI-generated content (12%).

It will take time for the average consumers to get comfortable with AI in marketing. But my 2c - don’t let this stop you from leveraging AI in your writing and marketing. You can always edit and make the content your own.

2. Google Ads to get a lot of love in the future of Google Search

While the changes coming to Google Search might be a little scary for the future of your blog organic traffic, it looks like Google is looking prioritize putting paid ads front and center in Google search alongside it’s new generative AI responses.

This is important for anyone running Google Ads to their E-com site, and we’ll track this to see how ad costs / performance changes over the next few months.

Google’s new conversational AI experience in search is known as the Search Generative Experience (SGE). Here’s how ads will change:

  • Ads will appear above, below, AND directly within the SGE responses.

  • Google will also experiment with new ad formats that use generative AI to create customized ads.

  • The goal is to provide highly relevant and personalized ads to users based on their search queries.

  • Additionally, Google will use generative AI to adapt Search ads to users' searches, and to populate its Performance Max campaigns with text and other assets.

💡 Lesson of the Day:

Don’t overload your site with too much new AI content at once

I'm all about using ChatGPT to write blog posts (with human editing and enhancement, of course). But recently, an SEO YouTuber warned about the dangers of going overboard with AI-generated content.

To be clear: the issue wasn’t the fact that the content was AI-written. The lesson here is simple—don't go from posting once a month to suddenly bombarding your platform with 50 new posts in three days. It's a recipe Google search removal.

Descript 🎥 - crazy easy video editing and creation

Descript is an AI tool that helps you make and edit videos and podcasts easily.

First, you upload or record your video. Descript then instantly transcribes the video (awesome) but the coolest part - you edit the video using the transcript.

In other words… literally delete any words or sentences you don’t like, and the video is magically edited. 😱

You can also add gifs, stock video, text, etc. all within the software.

I’m using it for my YouTube videos, and although Premiere Pro is supposed to add a similar transcription edit feature, I’m finding Descript to be so intuitive and it’s saving me a ton of time.

That’s all for now!
