Google Search changes are happening with your products

Plus: Google virtual try on, TikTok script generator, Amazon review summaries, and more

Happy Tuesday friends! Google has been busy updating product search and even creating virtual try-ons in search. Amazon is summarizing product reviews, and TikTok is jumping on the AI tool bandwagon.

Also, I’m experimenting with what days of the week to send out this newsletter. Could you do me a huge favor and let me know:

Thanks!! With that, let’s jump in:

📰 Stay in the Loop: AI E-Com News

1. New Google Search Product Searches 🛍️

Google is rolling out some exciting new features in their experimental search experience, known as Search Generative Experience (SGE), focusing specifically product searches.

Now, when customers search for a product, SGE will provide a wealth of information such as product recommendations with descriptions, reviews, ratings, prices, images, etc. It's like having a personal shopping assistant to help customers make decisions.

Product ads are still shown ABOVE this section, FYI. But pretty interesting how Google is pulling in its own recommendations. Should be interesting to see if they release criteria on how to SEO your way into this section.

2. TikTok Adds AI Ad Script Generator into Creative Center 🎥

TikTok is jumping on the AI bandwagon by providing a new Script Generator tool intended to help you create more engaging content.

With the help of AI algorithms, businesses can generate script ideas for their videos based on their industry vertical, product names, descriptions, and relevant keywords.

After playing around with the script generator, I can’t say I’m super impressed with the output. The scripts tend to be short and super generic. So perhaps this tool would be best used to give you a starting point to get you going.

But, notice how all the platforms are making generative AI tools? I’ll be curious to see what the user feedback is on them, and if they stick around.

3: Amazon Testing Product Page Review Summaries ⭐⭐⭐

Amazon has recently announced the testing of a new feature within its Shopping app, where generative AI will be used to create and display summaries of product reviews.

These summaries aim to provide a concise overview of both positive and negative feedback received for various products. Beneath the summary, a note clarifies that the content is derived from customer reviews using AI technology. Here’s a sample:

What will this mean for your Amazon listings?

Well, by condensing hundreds or even thousands of reviews into a quick summary, this feature has the potential to assist users in making informed choices. However, it remains to be seen whether this feature will have any impact, positive or negative, on sales. This will be an important one to monitor.

4: Virtual Try On Coming to a Google Search Near You 👚

E-commerce businesses are always looking for ways to improve their customers' shopping experiences, and Google's AI-based shopping experience with virtual try-on for clothes is setting a new standard.

“Virtual try-on for apparel shows you how clothes look on a variety of real models. Here’s how it works: Our new generative AI model can take just one clothing image and accurately reflect how it would drape, fold, cling, stretch and form wrinkles and shadows on a diverse set of real models in various poses. We selected people ranging in sizes XXS-4XL representing different skin tones, body shapes, ethnicities and hair types.”

We’ll keep you posted on how this will play with your clothing products.

💡 Take of the Day:

IKEA Transforming Call Center Workers Into Interior Design Advisors

Ikea is giving their call center pros a makeover, transforming them into remote interior design advisors.

They’ll be using AI tech to dish out design consultations and whip up 3D visuals. Ikea is creating an immersive experience for its customers, regardless of their proximity to an Ikea store.

🤔 Meg’s Take:

I love this. As e-commerce shopping evolves, customers are looking for more customizable shopping experience, and providing shopping assistants or advisors is a great potential avenue for adding value.

What’s cool is that we can even use AI bots to make this happen. For example, on my party supply store, we have added a bot that helps customers choose a party theme (here’s a video on how I did that).

Is that something you’d be interested in learning more about? Email me to let me know and we can work on more material on how to do things like this.
